If you're wondering why former Barbie's Cradle lead singer and now solo artist Barbie Almabis is smiling these days -- it's because she's making beautiful music with someone. No, I'm not talking about her new album (though she does have one coming out), I mean it in the figurative sense!

I interviewed Barbie at the Lovapalooza launch party, and the whole time, a tall guy in an all black get-up was watching her intently. I thought he was a curious onlooker, but I later found out that he's actually Barbie's "special friend". The good-looking guy is the son of a former military man turned Senator. He looks like a younger version of his dad sans the moustache(clue, clue!)

The very private Barbie was quite shy about discussing her love-life. Even the guy, who has a high-profile father, was uncomfortable about the media attention -- he would cover his face everytime the camera would focus on him. I did find out that their "relationship" is fairly new. Whether they'll hit the right notes, only time will tell. I do wish them all the best, as they make a lovely couple.

And speaking of the right notes, Barbie is coming out with a new album in a few months time. She says the album will feature a newer sound which she describes as, "less jazzy and more pop rock". Will her love songs be inspired by real life? Just asking... =)
