Constantine from Hell

That Constantine has an attitude problem. He acts like he's the biggest rock star. Sino ba siya?No wonder they thought of naming his soon-to-be aired ABC sitcom “Everybody Hates Constantine.” I arrived at Mycinema, Greenbelt 3 at 7:30pm for a one-on-one interview with the American Idol finalist. He was wearing a shirt with the words “rock royalty” printed on it. The very same shirt he was wearing since he landed at our very own Manila airport at 4 in the morning. Hindi man lang nagpalit. The guy looked dirty and tired. He admitted he was still jetlagged as he finished a bottle of red bull. Prior to my interview, the crew from Wazzup Wazzup had a taste of his attitude. He ordered the poor camera man to stop even if he only started shooting just seconds ago. Before that, when the sexy Wazzup host asked him her last question,"Constantine, where do you go from here?", he answered in typical rocker fashion, "To hell." And when she turned her back he murmurs something like, "And soon, you'll be there too."

When my turn came, the pr people (who weren't at all ma-pr) told me to re-schedule the alloted 5 minute interview because he's tired. My God I didn't even want to interview him in the first place but as a reporter you usually can't choose whom to interview. It's my job to get that interview and I insisted to get it and I did.

The report came out in Insider and Studio 23's News Central. He revealed he will have a new sitcom loosely based on his life. He says he loves the Philippines and Filipinos are beautiful etc. etc. His lovelife sucks etc. etc. He just wants to make music, work hard, have fun etc. etc.

The job was done. I didn't let my emotions affect my news report about Constantine, otherwise he's toast. Maybe he had a bad day. Still, I wonder why he fell on his butt when he tried to show off his high kick in front of a tv camera crew in the States. That was a defining moment in his career that will forever be etched in "America's funniest or most shocking TV moments".

I'd think since you consider yourself as a professional, you'd be more understanding from where this guy was coming from. From the moment he landed here to the time you had your interview, he had a busy day ahead of him (Meet and Greet the press, Tree lighting, etc). Didn't you even consider his comment as being funny? I don't even understand why'd you even make a huge fuss about what he wore and even that time he fell on his butt in national tv.

Aren't professionals like you supposed to be smarter than that? Get a grip.

Dear Nina,

I will try not to be rude as you already are.

Obviously, you do not have the slightest idea of who Constantine really is...his personal and family background, his life before and after American Idol and most importantly, the charities that he has done. So, I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

As for the wazzup interview...as far as I know, the show is a news-comedy one, right? Most of the intervieews there are required to give a not-so-serious answers...and Constantine is no exception. That's why I was not surprised when he answered "..uhm..to hell..." If you noticed, before answering the host's question, he paused for a while to think of a funny response. And he came up with that response. Apparently, it was not funny to your listening pleasure or I guess, you just didn't get him...

As for your interview...girl...he gave you smart answers amidst his tired face, body and brain. Honestly, of all the interviews that he had in our country, yours was the best adding the fact that you were all-smiling while you were conversing with him. Or was your smile all-fake?

I remember, I was able to talk with a magazine writer after she was able to make a comprehensive interview about him last week at the My Cinema. She said Constantine was so accomodating, sweet and nice despite the fact that he hadn't taken a rest since the time he arrived here.

As for my own Constantine encounter, I didn't get the masungit vibe after seeing him for almost 5 times in a week. Well, I don't know about you. His famous line..."it's either you get it, or you don't" very well applies to you. Obviously, you don't get him. But it's ok, dear. Cheer up!

Well I wasn't there so I can't jusdge. But I met him before the Greenbelt show (about an hour before) and got to sort of hang out with him and he was very very nice. He was so accomodating even if he had a ton of things to sign and he gamely posed for photos and chatted with us about his trip- even if he was admittedly jetlagged and even if he had to prepare for the show.
Seems to me that people either hate him or love him- with you falling into the previous category.

Con is exactly what his username is, a typical GREEKBOY. Plus, I don't give a flying piece of crap in space if Constantine was rude to you or the other reporters on that day or not, because he was NEITHER DIRTY NOR RUDE TO US when we met him, TWICE, AFTER HIS SHOWS.

You failed to think about where the poor guy was coming from. It was a very busy and tiring day for Constantine, especially since he just got out from a 13-hour flight that morning, then the tree-lighting ceremony that afternoon. I would SOMEHOW understand if Con was just lounging around in his hotel room since the day before, but that wasn't the case.

If this blog entry would have been an ounce more mature than it is, it would actually be worth worrying about a little bit more.

Hello anonymous posters. I also don't give a flying crap in space about Constantine, but when you post and say you're not being rude, then please introduce yourself.

Ms. 7:40, if it's not worth worrying about, why even lift a finger to post.

You anonymous flamers give blogging a bad name, calling other people immature when you've got your diapers all bunched up with something you obviously don't get.

Hello blog nazis...

robin, you obviously aren't a fan of constantine thus, i will not expect you to understand our sentiments.

with respect to the immaturity that emerged here...well, there's what we call the fruit of the poisonous tree. of course, you know that and i will not explain that further.

by the way...robin, how's your diaper? :)

your rhetoric is amusing, but I'd rather not continue on with flamers who hide behind aliases.

robin, you just don't know how to put up a good defense..

here's my take on the second article since i'm being blocked by the author:
it's weird that you made a new article considering that you received many comments opposing your previous blog entry.(i'm referring to this one)

anyway, the guy needs a break. he should be enjoying his privacy during the time that he was in the bar. of course, if i were peachy, i'd be disappointed too but there's a time for everything. it just so happened that the time when he was having a nice break while in a bar was not the right time for constantine to get his autograph and picture taken. if i had known peachy right away, i'd suggest her to make some extra effort in falling in line with the other fans to buy a KQ album just to get the precious signature of constantine. that was how the game worked. :)

Constantine is just a guy, who was not feeling well, and had a really long flight to a new country. He was, I imagine, very nervous, excited, etc.

From the reports I am hearing, his performances in your country were very well-received and attended and that he was more than gracious 99% of the time.

I am sure things will be more to your liking on his next visit there.

Hi! Its me again. I've been bitten by the conscience bug and have realized how stupid I was defending someone who doesn't give a flying fuck about me.

Come to think of it, you really were just doing your job of informing the Filipino public about who Constantine is, warts and all. That's what journalistic objectivity is all about, saying the good with the bad and letting the public form their own opinion of him.

Nina,

I’m a little confused on the article you wrote. So I have questions maybe you can answer.

Why would you be surprised if many Constantine fans reacted against your column full of insults about a guy who they adore and respect. Like you said, we all have different opinions.

If you think he’s not the biggest rock star, why would his wearing the same clothes on several occasion matters to you. Is one person’s character being based on what he wears, how often he wears something or how expensive his clothes are?

If you think he’s not the biggest rock star, why is your station’s crew wasting time to film him anyway or why did ABS-CBN’s Studio 23 sponsored his concerts here? Is your station ABS-CBN’s pathetic enough to sponsor a nonsense celebrity?

Why would you be surprised that he gets tired too? Only a shallow person would not understand what the effect of different time zone is, climate and environment does to someone who comes to the Philippines. Haven’t you been outside the country yet, had jetlag or heard someone about having jetlag? Why would you be so upset if he’s tired?

Why would a silly fall be a defining moment in his career? Are you really this shallow to judge an artist based on this?

How well do you know Constantine that even after you interviewed him you think less of him?

If you don’t let your emotions affect your news or anything you write for that matter, why waste a space in your blog insulting the guy you hardly believe in?

You said that Peachy Veneracion was a big fan of Constantine, if that’s true, why didn’t she make the effort to fall in line after the concert and get his autograph or take a picture with him? Ah maybe Peachy Veneracion thinks she’s beautiful and VIP that her request doesn’t deserve to be declined or that she doesn’t need to make an effort.

If she was truly a polite and educated person, she should have understood that maybe Constantine was in that bar and he just wanted to have a time for himself. Besides, Constantine wasn’t parading himself at Greenbelt, he was having drinks in the bar.

The horde of screaming fans are not impolite and cheap to go to his table and asks for his autograph or click their camera right away. They watched, waited, bought his CD and didn’t even insist themselves on taking a picture with him if Constantine didn’t want to. The horde of screaming fans respect his little privacy.

My last question is, is your being judgmental and rude not unbecoming of the journalist or writer or whatever that you are?

If you want people to respect your blog, you should respect other people as well.

I'm an American fan and one time acquaintance of Constantine, and it infuriates me to read such rubbish by someone who professes to be a professional journalist. This article was tainted with bias right from the beginning. Where is your objectivity in writing this article.

In seeing the number of visits on the counter for this page, I am not too concerned. It is obvious that you are not well known or well read due to the low number of hits here.

Just wanted to take a moment though and tell you how wrong you are about Constantine. This kid had just spent over a dozen hours in the air flying, he was suffering from jet lag and had been rushed around fulfilling marketing gigs, and you wonder why he wanted to postpone his interview with you???? You act as though this kid owed you something, or that he was obligated to talk to you. Your media outlet was given the opportunity to interview him, and you didn't even give him the common courtesy of going in with an open mind. Shame on you. You are no different than most of the sensationalist negative journalist and journalism that has overtaken the American media.

"That is not at all what happened. I was so unbelievably gracious with

inside? I was with Riko (bodyguard), who is very protective, he was
sitting
with me. My Production Manager for the shows, Mals. Her friend and
one

That was it. A pretty girl came up to me and asked for a picture an
I
turned her down? Yeah right!! NOT! I am so not like that...

Hey Nina! I was able to tape your interview from the Studio 23 News show that Nov. 14 night. I thought he was very insightful on your interview. If you would talk about yourself as professional, show some JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY. I have met Constantine 3x while he was here in Manila, and he was consistently polite & friendly. Maybe it was a stretch for you to interview world-famous people. I feel sorry for you. Be a writer with more class!

Anonymous said...

hahaha this blog is so funny i'm enjoying it so much. i wonder, where will constantine be in 3 years? or even in the next 6 months? i bet nakalitmutan na siya ng tao! ok rin kayong mag-aksaya ng panahon but keep it up!

Michayla Angela said...

it doesn't matter if you're a fan or not, this is a BLOG. an online diary where you voice out what YOU feel. what the fuck are you talking about professionalism?? this is her own webspace, and in this case, nina's just doing what any blogger does... voice out. her OWN experience at the whole constantine shit. hello, do you see the cameras rolling? uh no, thought so.

it's cool that constantine was sweet to his fans and all, but it doesn't justify how he acted towards the press. i mean, that's the media, man. he wouldn't be where he is now without all the publicity he got from the media hype of AI in the first place. considering he was very tired, he could've given the press people a break because everyone was just doing their job. IMHO.

Anonymous said...

Why are you wasting your time arguing with that Constantine? He has not proven yet anything. Contest pa lang yon. Tama ang comment na after 3 years, nasaan na kaya si Constantine? I saw his interview on TV and he looked so dirty. Kadiri!

Anonymous said...

Hi Nina,

I find this part of your blog entry particularly interesting—the part where you described Constantine looking “dirty and tired” when you interviewed him maybe 14 hours after he landed in Manila because he was wearing “(that) shirt with the words ‘rock royalty’ on it. The very same shirt he was wearing since he landed at our very own Manila airport at 4 in the morning.” I downloaded your Showbiz Insider report and saw that you used several clips taken of Constantine earlier that day, walking through the airport wearing a blue shirt--not the Rock Royalty shirt you mentioned. Before you posted your rant, sana, you re-checked the facts so that people wouldn't think you purposely exaggerated certain things just to make the poor jetlagged guy look bad.

Anonymous said...

may i just add that the rock royalty shirt was a gift from one of constantine's fans. that clearly shows how much he appreciates what he receives from his fans. of course you don't know that fact coz you refuse to know him, to begin with!

Anonymous said...

hey nina,

i must admire you for putting out even the negative comments from constantine's fans. i mean, what do you expect from these people. SAY WHAT YOU WANT and they can all go to hell with constantine..uh...who?
