Aladin: Goodbye and Good Luck
If you're wondering why ABS-CBN correspondent Aladin Bacolodan is not visible on TV these days, it's because he has left his job and his country to go to the land of milk and honey. Aladin's wife got a job as a nurse in Philadelphia. So, our very own war correspondent, best known for his fearless reports of the bombings in General Santos City and the tsunami aftermath in Banda Aceh, has decided to be a "houseband." And he'll definitely be a busy one taking care of his one-year-old daughter while his wife works in the hospital.
I was shocked when I heard the news and confronted Aladin about it. He just said something like, you gotta do what you gotta do. It may be stating the obvious, but when a successful broadcast journalist like Aladin decides to give that all up, then something must be terribly wrong with our country. Still, I wish him well.
Aladin, do remember us when you're rich and famous in Hollywood. :)

this is sad. we're continuously losing good citizen's of this country.
wow.
so that's why I don't hear him signing off on his reports anymore.
lucky guy.
it's not that easy to go to the US as a nurse, lots of exams to pass, which are not cheap--they're in dollars.
most of my friends are taking up Nursing--you don't earn much here, even when you get to be a manager. being a manager sounds nice, but financially not that good, considering that tuition for a semester is hitting P50 thou. if you have 2 or 3 kids...then tough luck. P150 thou, and you haven't factored in the uniforms, the food, and the transportation.
public school? aside from the UPIS, then Manila Sci or Phil Sci... I'm not married, nor do I have a kid, so I wouldn't know; but my friends don't think the other schools will prepare their kids for entrance to UP or La Salle or Ateneo.
Aladin is right. "You gotta do what you gotta do." my friends are taking up Nursing for their kids. for their future.
there's this saying, "Money can't buy Happiness."
as I get older, I find that wanting in money is a factor in unhappiness.
having money is a good thing, so you don't have to worry about the little things...so you don't have a bad day when the gas prices go up even when world prices go down.
ah, Nina.
It is really unfortunate that we continue to lose the best and brightest people to other countries. Before it was Jim Peredes and his family, now it's aladin naman. sigh.

Nina! ang ganda-ganda mo sa Star Patrol! bagay sa iyo ang gold Chinese dress.
lovely Nina!
:)
Sayang naman si Aladin, pero that's okay since he would be more focused on his family now. :)
Ah too bad for him naman, kaya pla wala na siya sa Tv patrol. Hay.. life nga naman. I'll miss him, for sure.
hello..pwede tayo exchange links?
Nothing is forever I guess, now we have to move on because life shouldn't just get stuck somewhere there.
wow, ganda-ganda ni Nina!
bigay ba ni Mayor ang shirt mo?
:D (joke!)
funny comment, lawspeak_007!
bottomline in this case is survival.
you might be a martyr, but it's hard to make martyrs of your family. especially your kids.
Claudine looked so pretty in her wedding gown!
a dream wedding.
but Nina looked as lovely & as radiant as the bride!
so when are we seeing Nina's wedding?
:)
Marami ng nagsisialisan sa bansa natin. Bad trip naman kasi ang nangyayari sa bansa natin. Anyway, Nina, I'd just like to say na matagal na kitang crush. Galing mo. Astig!
Nina ask ko lang...nasaan na ba si GIGI grande?
You can catch Gigi Grande doing in-depth reports for The Correspondents every Monday. Gigi left her reportorial job in the news department and transferred to current affairs almost a year ago, if I'm not mistaken.
lovely Nina!
can you post your pic from your coverage of the Raymart-Claudine wedding?
you looked so pretty!
:)
pic naman ni Nina sa Yes party!
you look so pretty!
With the life in the Philippines today, would anyone still wonder why people decide to live abroad? I believe Aladin made a very good decision, i made the same decision 5 years ago. Now i have my own house here in UK, 2 cars, etc.
Do you think magkakaron ako nyan with my 8,000 pesos salary as a nurse in Pinas?
Don't get me wrong, i love the Philippines nakamiss magkaron ng katulong (hehehe! sa abroad kasi lahat ikaw) pero everytime i watch the news sa TFC, i get mixed emotions, natatakot sa dami ng crime, naaawa at nalulungkot sa hirap ng buhay.
Well to you Aladin, i'm sure you wont need a four leaf clover because i'm sure you'll do just great! GOODLUCK AND GOD BLESS!!!!
I found his reporting from the quarantined region somewhere up north (Pampanga, is it?) to be not only in-depth and well-informed but utterly courageous just for the sheer bravado of facing a new and fatal disease. Cheers!
ah.. sad.. :(
